So, this is take two of this post. I had posted this earlier but the internet apparently ate it.
Shannon Davis, a Broomfield, Colorado, woman has lost 300lbs in three years. How? Through hard work and eating healthier foods. She didn’t succumb to fad diets, fad workout machines, or surgery; she bought a gym membership and walked in the pool until she got to the point that she could use the treadmill. One thing I really appreciated that she said was that food cravings aren’t something to be ashamed of and she admitted that she still occasionally partakes in sweets, just not as much as she used to. She says that she has a way to go before she’ll be happy with her body but I think that she deserves recognition for what she has achieved by losing 300lbs in a healthy, long-term way.
She also said that she’d like to start a non-profit to help obese people be able to afford gym memberships so they can get healthier.
It should also be noted that, while I think that she has done an amazing job and is inspirational, I don’t think that overweight/obese people should be pressured by society to lose weight because they are “gross” or whatever. If someone wants to lose weight in a healthy way to improve their health, then more power to them. However, I don’t like the pressure there is on overweight/obese people to lose weight just because society expects them to.
Anyway, here’s the news article:
