New eating disorder research shows that minority groups are just as likely to suffer from eating disorders as Caucasian women. It also talks about how the incidence of men/boys with eating disorders are rising.

According to NEDA, 9%, or about 1 million, people who suffer from eating disorders are male and they estimate that the real numbers are higher. The numbers are on the rise, too. Part of this is due to how boys are expected to participate in sports more than girls so it’s harder for parents to tell if their sons are exercise anorexics or are just really active, also boys tend to spend less time at home than girls as they become teenagers so it’s harder for parents to keep an eye on them.
